Density, not identity.
The Crowd-Sense Collector listens, counts, and discards. The result is honest density data — delivered in real time, with no per-person record left behind.
The Crowd-Sense Collector
The Collector is a small USB-powered sensor — about the size of a stack of coins — that plugs into a USB socket and connects over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. It's supplied to you as part of your subscription: you don't buy it, install it, or maintain it. We do.
Capture starts within minutes of you plugging it in. There's no app to deploy, no captive portal, no opt-in friction for the people walking past.
What it does
- Listens — passively, for nearby Wi-Fi devices.
- Counts — how many devices it can see, grouped into five distance bands, across five time windows (1, 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes).
- Discards — the device identifiers, on the Collector itself, before any data leaves it.
Only the counts ever leave the Collector. Density and trend, in real time, with no per-person record kept anywhere.
What it doesn't do
The Collector cannot, by design:
- Identify any specific person or device
- Track anyone across visits or across venues
- Read images, audio, or any other content
- Talk to your visitors' phones
- Build demographic profiles
- Send anything off the device that could identify someone
These aren't policy promises we could quietly change later. They're architectural — the Collector is physically built so that the data required to do these things never exists in the first place.
What you get
A live dashboard, a REST API, CSV exports, and webhook alerts — whichever you prefer. The data shows you:
- Density by zone and distance band
- Trend by time window — minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, day-by-day, week-by-week
- Real-time signals you can hook to operational systems (cleaning, staffing, HVAC, capacity, signage, alerts)
What you provide
Crowd-Sense Collectors are designed to live wherever you already have USB power and Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Those two things are your responsibility at each site:
- USB power — a free USB port or a standard wall socket within cable reach. The Collector ships with the cable.
- Network access — your existing Wi-Fi credentials (WPA2-Personal or WPA2-Enterprise both supported) or an Ethernet cable to your network. Either works.
- A spot to put it — desktop, shelf, behind a screen, on a wall mount. Anywhere within reasonable line-of-sight to the area you want measured.
For outdoor and street-furniture deployments — lamp columns, civic infrastructure, exposed weather conditions — we co-ordinate the power, connectivity and enclosure with you as part of deployment design. Indoor sites are self-install.
Self-install in minutes
- Plug into mains via USB.
- Connect Ethernet, or pair to Wi-Fi.
- Watch the status light walk through link → time-sync → capture.
- Data starts flowing.
No civils, no scaffolding, no specialist trade. A typical town-centre, BID or pub-group rollout takes 10 minutes per Collector to place and another 15 to install.
